Head Physical Therapyin Rhode Island

We specialize in the treatment and management of acute concussions as well as those with persistent and chronic symptoms. We utilize a patient centered care model incorporating a multi-disciplinary team approach to ensure the best possible care to return you to sport, work and recreational tasks. The management of concussions entails addressing blood flow impairments by utilizing graded exposure to aerobic exercise, improving vestibular and visual dysfunction as well as performing manual therapy and corrective exercises for cervical spine involvement. In addition, a holistic approach is utilized with education on diet and sleep to further improve symptoms. Our main goal is to ensure a safe recovery following this injury and to spread public awareness and education about concussions and how a physical therapist can help. We also provide a comprehension baseline test consisting of 8 tests analyzing neurocognitive function, memory, reaction time, balance and more. Please contact one of offices to learn more!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • If we are asking you to do something that is hurting too much, let us know! Physical therapy should not be severely painful. It is not common to be so sore that patients are in pain or it affects their daily life. If this ever happens during or after an appointment, let us know and we will adapt your program.

  • We recommend budgeting 40-60 minutes for a typical therapy session. The only exception to this will be your first visit, which can take about 20 minutes longer due to the physical therapy evaluation your therapist will provide. We also recommend showing up about 10-15 minutes early to your first visit. This way, you can complete the paperwork before your visit time and streamline the process.

  • A typical order for physical therapy will ask for 2-3 visits per week for 4-6 weeks. Sometimes the order will specify something different. What generally happens is for the first 2-3 weeks, we recommend 3x per week. This is because it will be the most intensive portion of your treatment. After that, it is common to taper to 2x weekly, based on your level of function and progress.

  • Yes. Physical therapy works based on the science of how the body rebuilds and heals. The biggest killer of progress is inconsistency. We recommend adhering to your prescribed sessions agreed upon in your PT Eval to achieve desired results.

People in Rhode Island Trust Pappas OPT

Hear from patients that reclaimed their lives.

I joined Pappas OPT in 2017 as a new graduate and could not be more happy with the sense of community and shared passion for patient-centered care that comes naturally to this company. Pappas OPT has been a wonderful company to help lead me on my own path as a Physical Therapist. I have achieved more in 2 years than I expected to in 5 thanks to the endless support from Pappas OPT.

Lauren Parsonage, DPT, OCS

North Providence & East Greenwich/Healthtrax

I knew Pappas OPT would be the right fit for me when I was here for my first clinical affiliation. The focus on company culture and continuing education is what helped me make my decision to apply. What really helped solidify my decision was when I voiced my desire to build a pelvic health program, which was not in place at the time.  I’m grateful that I have the opportunity to continue to grow with this company.

This was my first time at Pappas OPT. I have to say it was one of the best doctor/health/clinic experiences I have ever had. I was treated with respect, received a thorough examination and ongoing treatment plan, and was met with a smiling face by every employee.

Pappas OPT Patient

Pappas OPT has an extremely clean therapeutic facility. All of the people I encountered were helpful, especially my therapist Destiny. I didn’t expect much relief because of pre-existing conditions, but I was pleasantly surprised.

You can be confident you’re in good hands, no matter who is helping you through your healing process. After three years of chronic lower back and hip pain and numerous, unsuccessful PT experiences, for me, this was a miraculous outcome. I cannot say enough about the atmosphere and PT philosophy that has been nurtured here.
